Shady Grove Horticulture
Shady Grove Horticulture grew from a desire to share the beauty and knowledge of the plant and gardening world with all who wish to learn. Gardens are meant to be a reflection of the individual, and is the best opportunity that we all have to connect with nature. Shady Grove aims to create a unique garden for all, so whether it’s edibles, flowers, natives, xeric and any other gardening that speaks to you, we are there to help create and foster that idea.
Whether you’re a native, or you’ve just moved here recently, we understand that Colorado can be a tough climate to plant in. One of our favorite phrases is “Right plant, right place”, because we believe that when the right plants are put in the right places, our Colorado gardens will thrive! We are here to help guide you through the process, or with any gardening issues you have. Some of the services we provide are design, plant selection and procurement, irrigation, pest and disease control.
Jason Shimmel - Horticulturalist/Owner
Jason Shimmel is a lifelong and self professed “plant nerd”. He has been messing with plants and gardens for as long as he can remember, and it was this passion that led him to Colorado State University, where he earned a degree in Environmental Horticulture. In the nearly 20 years he spent in the nursery and landscape industry, Jason has worked job sites both large and small, giving him a great understanding of the issues that face any size job.
He resides in Erie, CO with his amazing wife, two children, and, of course, their garden, that he will gladly show to anyone interested! He is the current Chair of the Erie Tree Advisory Board, and is a Colorado Certified Nursery Professional.
Outside of work, Jason enjoys spending as much time as possible with his family. His passions include hiking and wildflowers, live music, snowboarding, and of course hockey and the New York Rangers!
